I am currently watching the Tigers/Red Sox game in Comerica Park. What does this have to do with the Braves?
Its the first inning. The tigers have no outs, and they just hit 4 straight singles and a double. 3-0.
Now. Braves, similar situation: Furcal gets on, Giles gets on. Runners on first and second. Andruw is up. It's a long fly ball, and gone. 3-0. Then three straight outs.
Now, Jorge Sosa (the best pitcher I have seen on the braves club to date). Is pitching. He holds it to a 3-1 game into 7 innings. Reitsma comes up and loses the game.
Back to the tigers. No home runs yet, only one double, but it is now 4-0 with no outs and a runner on 1st and third.
This is why the Braves can't win in the postseason. Let's change the situation. Down by one, 2 runners on (first and third). 9th inning of Game 5 against the Astros. One out. Chipper is up. A single ties it up, a double wins. He hits a fly to left. Now, 2nd and 3rd base full, and two outs. Andruw comes up. A base hit wins. Long fly ball, a homer wins... but its caught on the warning track.
Just hit singles! Don't try to win in one hit. Singles are just as good.
It's now 5-0, 1 out two man on with the Tigers. On a bunt for a base hit.
Now, next issue.
Pitching:
Smoltz - good.
Hudson - decent.
Hampton - been gone to long to tell.
Thompson- gone to long to tell.
Ramirez- not as solid as last year
Sosa- amazing. except for one game, all quality starts.
Davies-wow. 3 shutouts to start his MLB career.
which to keep in the postseason-I say Smoltz, Hampton, Sosa, Hudson (for 7 game series).
Now. other contenders.
Washington/Phillies- braves have been playing 500 ball. someone could take over really quick (Wash. has won 4 in a row.)
Houston - maybe falling apart, but still scary after last year.
Cards: Let's not talk about them. It's going to be rough.
Padres: no one takes them seriously. i think they will suprise someone in the short series. lets hope its the cards. but that means the astros win the wild card...
okay. now, braves are falling apart. Reitsma is horrible as Kolb.
they have a 4.5 game lead. its not enough. they will fall apart, and become the wildcard. they get cards in short series and lose. padres beat phillies/wash in series, cards take padres in 6.
Okay. I'm done ranting. What I really think will happen.
AL:
Red Sox hold on to win EAst
yANKEES are the wild card (oakland close, cleveland 5 games back)
White Sox hang in win central, but by 5-6 games.
angels win west by 2 games.
White Sox/Yankees= White Sox win, but it goes to 5 games, and its a close one. The two games Yankees wins are blowouts.
Angels/RedSox= Red Sox win, in 5. Angels win 2, Red Sox win next three. (I know, another comeback, but they did it against Oakland)
Red/White Sox goes to 6. White Sox win 1, red win next 2, white sox win fourth, red sox win next 2. its again, close.
NL:
Braves hold on to win east. (Reason: Cox, nuff said)
washington Nats: playoff with houston and win wildcard
cards win central by 8
padres win west at 1 game over 500
cards v. washington, cards in 4
braves v. padres, brave in 5, hampton pitches well, but reitsma collapses, and it takes 11 innings for Frenchy to hit a game winning single
braves verus cards: braves win 1, cards win 1, braves win 1, cards win 1, braves win 1, cards win 1, cards win 1.
